Unemployment Insurance Benefits

Notice to Worker:

In order to be considered for unemployment insurance benefits, you must file an unemployment claim. No benefits can be paid to you for any week before you actually file your unemployment insurance claim. Failure to file your claim or delaying the filing could affect your eligibility for benefits. You should always file your claim as soon as possible after becoming unemployed. You will not be considered eligible until your claim is filed.

To qualify for partial Unemployment Insurance benefits during the government shutdown, an employee's income for that week would have to fall below 72% of what they normally earn for that week. If an employee's weekly gross pay is more than $812 for the week beginning July 2, 2017, that employee is NOT eligible for Unemployment Insurance benefits. This is a general rule of thumb, but this could vary depending on work schedule and wages.

For the purpose of Unemployment Insurance benefits, weeks start on Sunday and end on Saturday.

State employees who qualify for benefits as noted above must file online by Saturday, July 8 or by telephone by Friday, July 7 at 4:30pm or they will not be eligible to receive benefits for the week of July 2.

In the event an employee receives Unemployment Insurance benefits and then is subsequently paid for that day, he or she must pay the Unemployment Insurance benefits back to the state.
